FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I calculate Watts to Battery storage?
Total watts per hour divided by 12 multiplied by hours required equals Amp  storage required.

For long deep-cycle  battery life  50% to 70% of capacity is the usable storage depending on choice of battery quality.

Criteria for assessing the need for an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) function

The need for a UPS or backup supply will depend on whether the client decides if the use of his equipment/appliances is essential or not. It is here that some clients may need to be advised of the costs versus the "needs", as these could become too prohibitive.
Some questions and pointers to assist  in determining what product is best suited to meet individual needs:
•  What is the budget?
•  What are their critical or essential needs, and does their budget allow these needs to be met? A trade- off  between perceived need and critical need must be made with reference to budget constraints
•  How sensitive is the equipment or the appliances to "noisy" or unstable supplies, e.g, spikes, surges, dips, irregular supply, etc.?
•  What unit is best suited to meet their critical needs (i.e., is only enough time required to shut down computers or other appliances to continue operating for the estimated duration of the power outage?).This is another important consideration, as the longer the backup time, the more expensive it becomes
•  Where to position the UPS and associated equipment.
•  Do they want it to operate through the electrical installation or is it going to be plugged into a socket outlet, i.e., do they want a DIY type unit or something more sophisticated?

Can I put my UPS anywhere?
UPS Where you want it

You can make your own sub-circuit by simply plugging the inlet battery charger plug into the wall socket and using the outlet with a multi-plug strip for required items ( the battery should not be more than 50cms  from the inverter). Automatically the switch control will give default to grid power when available, switching to battery power when it goes below 180Vac or above 290 Vac

Can I connect ym UPS through the Distribution board?
Connection through Distribution Board

We advise that you contract with a Registered Electrical Engineer for installation.  This layout is an indication of procedure as a demonstration of the possibilities of the TBDy auto-switching range of inverters from 500W to 10Kws, however it is not intended to be used without consulting with a professional.  Home Inverters or any member of their staff takes no responsibility  for its accuracy.

NOTICE

It is not essential to connect the UPS Inverter system  to your Distribution Board,  it is just one option which may be convenient under certain circumstances. Contact us to discuss the alternatives.
HOW TO

UPS CONNECTION to Distribution Board

Remove wires from the  circuit breakers you wish to convert into Home Inverters TBD UPS system, also the neutrals for these circuits from the neutral bar:  now connect these cables to a three-core cable i.e. the wire/s from the circuit breaker/s joined together and connected to the red core of the three-core cable.  The two wires from the neutral bar are joined together and connected to the black core of the three-core cable.  The green wire must be connected to the earth bar.  The other end of this cable must be connected to a 5-amp 3 pin plug and it will be plugged into UPS AC 220 volt input plug at the back of the inverter (where the fans are). For solar Hybrid systems refer to the factory instructions

The three-core cable from the UPS input must be connected. Red or brown core must be connected to one of the circuit breakers that feed the Circuits you wish to convert to UPS Power.   The black core must be connected to the neutral bar.

The green/yellow core connected to the earth bar.

The battery connections are Red to Red (positive) and Black to Black Negative).

Please note you will no longer have the protection of an earth leakage unit.  It would be advisable to connect a 15-amp earth leakage unit in the circuit from the UPS output and the three-core cable connecting to the circuits on UPS power.

Rear of UPS inverter ( up to 4000 Watts ) where the fans are, is the input from Eskom.

5000 watts and above both Pure and Advanced Modified Sine wave have special connections.
Front of UPS inverter where the read-out screens are and international 3 point plug is, is the output to the  circuit. ( on all models up to 4000 watts)
DO NOT CONNECT GRID POWER TO THE FRONT, THIS WILL BLOW UP THE INVERTER

The hybrid Solar Units and larger units than 3Kva are more suited to be integrated or controlled through a distribution board.
